Finally after a lot of heartburn, we managed to get the first publication printed – Pallavi’s great illustration is now out there for children and parents to enjoy and use. We hope this spurs our publication side of Daily Dump and we meet our targets for creating great material for children to understand issues of sustainability. Do pick up a copy.

This is what the expert comment was at the end of their analysis.
“In Daily Dump, the intention of the venture is noble and appealing for social causes with environment aspects. This should gain traction with the middle class as consumers become increasingly open to "green" solutions.
Aiding in the ability to grow is the fact that the concept appears basic and the technology aspect to create compost is undifferentiated and open to being widely used without any significant challenge. However, given basic dynamics of the offering, scaling the venture might be challenging and time consuming. The entrepreneur is open to non-traditional ways to grow - and in fact is looking for other organizations to replicate the model, and push the idea of home-composting in other regions. Therefore, to reach large scale, the entrepreneur could consider a business model based on a co-operative system, along the lines of Amul.
This could be a fit case for investment, but by way of allocations from corporate social responsibility budget at this stage or for cleantech funds. After all, micro-financing had started the same way and became a bankable industry in less than a decade.”

We had the team from Discovery channel come over to shoot the project.
We presented to Mr Murthy for 25 minutes and he was most delighted with our aprons. He enjoyed the presentation and we hope that he has been talking to people about composting at home after this.
We enjoyed the interaction and our team came away feeling happy.

Mrs. Kanyika Kini,
Communication designer, Daily Dump
Better to do the right thing wrong than the wrong thing right.
This is how communication designer Kanyika Kini crystallizes the philosophy behind the Daily Dump – project. What started of as educating people in how to diminish the amount of 2000 tons of garbage produced in Bangalore is slowly developing into a phenomenon in India.

Kanyika Kini part of the founding team at Daily Dump presented the case study at the Helsinki Design Lab 2008.
The audience was very excited about this project and it got Daily Dump a lot of international exposure.
Thanks Kanyika for going there on our behalf.
Can you put your hand in the waste and stir it? This was when the penny dropped for these 40 children. We had a great time and we look forward to working with children and issues of sustainability.

We got an award – the Better Interior Magazine gave us the Green Product of the Year award. Radha Chanchani graciously went to Mumbai to collect it on behalf of Daily Dump.

The Chennai clone of Daily Dump was featured here. Navneeth Raghavan was driving to Bangalore that morning and was inundated by calls on her way here. This will give the Chennai effort a big boost.
Pradeep Panda from NALCO, Orissa is an engineer who has shown how each individual can make a difference. He took the drawings from us and has made his own composter. Once he actually is successful, he will then begin getting others to do so.

Daily Dump in Orissa
Dear Madam ,
To inform you that my compost of 12 days old is improving well;thanks for your discovered technology;now i feel confident that I shall get a good yield as final compost in total 30 days.
Some observations :
The mass is slimy ,some time full with thinwhite but fluppy fungus,7 there is no maggot!
Onion peel is not at all digested Bigger raw banana chunk is not as easily reduced.
How without maggots the mass will become compost? What will happen to maggots in the final compost?
But I am also dreaming to that some way is found to digest/reduce medicine blister packs,Pan masala pouches, offcourse these have aluminium lining.
Any way; have you got my photos?
When you find time please share your views.
Thanks
P Panda

The Future Group kindly agreed to let us showcase our products at their Jan Mela. We took our products and Ashraf stood there for 4 days. While we got a lot of inquiries, actual sales did not materialize. Perhaps we will be ready for retail sales once we have a sales force in place. Till then we must rely on demonstrations and individual orders.
