Stir the pipes of all Gamlas at least once in 3-5 days. Stirring the pile is critical for composting. It allows air to reach areas which need oxygen. Without oxygen the pile generates a foul odour and takes longer to decompose. Stirring combines dry portions with extra wet ones to create a homogenous mixture, this hastens composting.
In case of odour or fruit flies – spray the area with Daily Dump lemon grass solution – it is an organic insect repellent. It also has a lemony fragrance.
The pile should have the correct amount of moisture. Add dried leaves and mix in if there is too much moisture in the pile. Add water and mix well if the pile is too dry.
Neem powder controls maggot population in the pile. Pile should be moist for best results. Add 2 tablespoons of Neem to the waste 3 days after you begin composting and every 7 days thereafter.
The accelerator is a culture of micro-organisms in powder form. Adding accelerator hastens decomposition. You can use any other accelerator - cowdung is very good too. Add 2 teaspoons to the waste the day you begin composting and once every 7 days thereafter.
(Daily Dump supplies Neem Powder and accelerator in refill packs.)
