Gayatri and Pavan – two of the students from SPJIMR Mumbai – who interned with us last summer, wrote to us saying,
Since our project at Daily Dump, we have been able to continue working in Mumbai. We have taken small steps – Segregation in our college and hostel and liasoning with a Kabadiwala and recycler. We have also started mentoring a handful of first year students. These students want to do their internships in the same field. Recently, we built a business concept (now to be tested by our juniors) and were able to present this at the Nasscom Social Innovation Awards 2011.
We feel extremely fortunate that we were in the right place at Daily Dump and with the right mentor, and introduced to the context of Solid waste management, the informal recycling sector. We owe you a huge Thankyou for ‘pushing’ us to stretch our inhibiting boundaries. Thank you very much.
Nice to hear from you Gayatri and Pavan. Do keep us in the loop and let us know how your work in this area goes.
