Flowers Don't Die is an exciting project workbook and resource that helps to engage with current ideas of climate change, circular economy at a hyperlocal level. Designed to be interactive, fun and interesting. Using the example of a local florist business, this workbook and resource  set encourages first-hand understanding of the challenges of running a small business, including “greening” a business. It seeks to foster a cross-pollination of people from different walks of life in the hope that it will create engagement, friendship, empathy and perhaps some new pathways for greener practices. 

Use the Flowers Don't Die resource with children at home, in school, in your neighbourhood. Or use it with colleagues at the workplace as an employee engagement community activity or as a project at your housing society. It will offer a great opportunity to build key skills including critical thinking, reflection, project management, and user-centred research.

Directions for Use 

• This resource set includes 7 documents. We suggest going through all of them first before getting started.
• The Flowers Don't Die workbook is the main document that you should read first.
• On starting the project, your inputs for the activities and exercises in this workbook can be added in soft copy. Or you can print the workbook if you wish to.
• There are 2 Case Study decks. The first is a case study of Daily Dump's work with florists in our. neighbourhood - to share our experience and learnings before you start. The second case study deck includes different examples of those working with flower waste.
• The Project Tracker Template is a spreadsheet that can also be filled in soft copy.
• The Conversation Starter Cards are prompts designed to help you in your interaction with the local business.
• The Flower Composting deck explains how to compost flower waste easily.

5 Disgustingly Cool Books is a set of 5 fun books that looks at big questions for the young exploring mind. Each of the 5 books has been designed around a core idea or question. For instance, Where do you think the cleanest water comes from? What is yucky? Why do pizzas seem cooler than rotis? What if I don’t say enough? What are the not-so-cool stories behind every product we buy. The idea is to provoke questioning and discovery among children, rather than offer them the ‘right’ answer. 

This book set is best enjoyed by 8-12 year olds, the golden age when children start forming opinions of the world around them and gradually build their own sense of self. It encourages critical thinking. Pair it with the Ooze Stopper or Care Box to help children experience the power of their everyday actions.

Great resource for students, professionals and anyone interested in understanding the value of informal waste sector in managing waste in urban India.

In 2009 Daily Dump began research to see if technology could help the informal sector. This publication is the result of 2 years of action research.

Daily Dump coined the term Recycle Guru to show how the local waste picker and dealer are actually experts and must be acknowledged as such. The report highlights the challenges of resource recovery of dry waste in urban Indian centres. In a simple to understand style it explains the involvement of different stakeholders and the possible future solutions to manage waste and provide dignity to the informal waste sector.

Daily Dump is still exploring the most valid leverage point to bring change to the way dry waste streams can be managed. It continues to work in this area.

The Ouch & Moo books on Plastic Bags bring to focus the menace of this everyday material. It gets children to connect it to their everyday lives in an interactive, fun way. 

While all plastic is not bad, we've reached a stage where it threatens to eat into our guts – like in the case of the poor cows in these books. Materials have a life, and we must help our children become aware of their advantages and disadvantages from a very young age. This will enable them to make informed choices as they grow and begin to make decisions. These books help children understand the concept of manmade objects and natural things. It also includes some concrete steps that a child can take in her daily routine to build the habit of reducing, reusing and recycling. 

The Red Ouch and Moo book (for older children) and its companion, the Yellow Ouch and Moo book (for younger kids) address the issue at different levels of complexity.
