Disposing e waste ? | Daily Dump has cool solutions!
Across India – especially urban India – more and more electronic gadgets and devices are entering our homes. They’ve become indispensable features of our lives – so much so that, if we can afford it, we often grab the latest one as soon as it comes on the market.
Our higher consumption rates are leading to increased e-waste in our society. And all too often that e-waste gets mixed into landfills, oozing out and creating a toxic sludge that seeps into our water system and the soil growing our fruits and vegetables.
India generated about 3 million tonnes (MT) of e-waste in 2019 and it’s expected to increase significantly in the coming years. What is e-waste? Simply put: it’s any electronic or electric waste (the e stands for both). While we may enjoy the pleasures of a well lit home and using our cell phones, it’s important to consider the entire lifecycle of these products, which are predominantly linear. Essentially, they go from cradle to grave – although there are some parts of most electric and electronic devices that can be recuperated and returned to the cradle.
There are many e-waste collectors in the informal sector who are willing to take your e-waste although they often prefer it if you save up a bunch of items to make it worth their while. They carefully take it apart and collect the components of value and properly dispose of the refuse. But before the e-waste collector can take your stuff, it’s important that you get to him in one piece – because if you don’t segregate properly there can be toxic consequences!
And that’s where we come in! Daily Dump has a range of e-waste solutions to your e-waste problems. Each one will help you segregate and store the most toxic parts of your e-waste and do so safely! Because it might be easy to separate your waste items, but it’s not so easy to do so carefully!
A simple box that you can decorate yourself with the whimsical and delightful stickers that come with it. Care Box holds up to 12 light bulbs for you to store and take to your local e-waste dealer once it’s full.
Our brand new container for collecting all your battery waste. The Ooze Stopper comes complete with a wonderful story book, told from the point of view of a battery, about why it’s important to treat batteries carefully, especially once they no longer work.
Bulb Care: This book and activity sheet are terrific tools to engage young people on the subject of electricity and electronics. There are plenty of thought provoking and fun activities that are great for parents to do with their children or for teachers to use in the classroom.
All of these new items – including a fabulous new set of children’s books called Ooze, which will be out soon! – will not only to help families and communities become more sensitised to the electronic and electric items we consume, but also ensure we dispose of everything in a way that won’t harm us or our environment. They will also be wonderful additions to accent your home with bright colours, helping make waste beautiful!
